From Book Signings to Backyard Treasures

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well and finding a little time each day to read a good book. During my years in the classroom, I always encouraged parents to have their children read for at least 20 minutes a day. Turns out that's good advice for all of us grown-ups, too. Research suggests reading for pleasure can reduce stress and improve our overall sense of well-being. As if we book lovers need another excuse to read.

If you're visiting my website/blog for the first time, WELCOME! I'm glad you chose to stop by. To returning friends, thanks for coming back. I appreciate you taking some time from your day to visit with me.

After last week's temperatures in the 90s, I'm happy to report fall has finally arrived - at least where I live. The cooler temps are a welcome change and the trees in my neighborhood are now showing off their gorgeous autumn colors. I've always loved this time of year, so it's no coincidence both Murdered by the Books and Murdered by the Blooms take place in the fall.

Two New Friends and Two Good Books

Early in October, I attended a vendor event in Terre Haute, Indiana where I met two delightful, young ladies, Lydia and Anna. We struck up a conversation about college, books, and writing, quickly discovering we shared much in common.

Both girls purchased a copy of one of my books, planning to swap books when they finished. With college expenses to consider, I thought this was a great idea.

Although Anna and Lydia had only met recently, they laughed and talked like lifelong friends, reminding me of Jillian and her friends, Becca and Trixie.

After posing for this picture with me, they wandered off, only to return a short while later with a wonderful surprise. They'd staged their own fall-themed photo shoot with my books and couldn't wait to share them with me. You can see for yourself what a great job they did.

Lydia and Anna, if you're reading this, it was wonderful to meet you, best of luck with the rest of this semester and next, and thank you for sharing these wonderful photos!

A Visit to St. Louis

Another stop on my fall calendar took me to St. Louis for an fantastic event called Books by the Arch. What a great day! I met some fabulous fellow authors, visited with enthusiastic readers, and had the pleasure of signing and selling a few books along the way.

I also enjoyed seeing some familiar faces from last year's event. And as an added bonus, my sweet cousin, Hannah, who lives nearby, stopped in for a quick visit and to pick up her copy of Murdered by the Blooms. Nothing like a little family support to make a good day even better!

Where I'll Be Next

My fall calendar isn't even close to being finished yet! I have many more events coming up, and I'd love to see some of you there. With the holidays just around the corner, don't forget that books make wonderful gifts. And a personally signed copy adds a little something special! Free gift wrapping available with purchase.

Your Name Could Be in My Next Book

There've been a few slight changes to my contest offering one lucky reader the chance to have a character in Book 3 of my series named after them.

I originally asked readers to post reviews to earn entries, but I've since learned that Amazon doesn't allow reviews to be tied to contests or prizes. So, no reviews or purchases are necessary.

Want to enter? Simply message me through Facebook Messenger or on one of my posts about the contest with the word CHARACTER, and I'll add your name to the drawing.

The lucky winner will have a character named after them AND receive a free signed copy of Book 3 when it's released!

Deadline: Extended to December 31, 2026.

*******

Now for my own public service announcment on behalf of authors everywhere.

Honest reviews are always welcome and a great way to show your appreciation to authors if you enjoyed their books. Reviews help authors' books receive more attention.

Backyard Treasures

Before I go, I have to share a little story about Riley and Finley, my two miniature schnauzers.

Whenever we sit outside on the deck, Finley has taken to bringing me rocks from the yard. One at a time, she proudly delivers them, knowing there's a treat waiting for her. Not to be outdone, her sister Riley often joins in, although she prefers collecting sticks and twigs. Of course, both girls expect to be rewarded, regardless of who actually brought me something.

As you can imagine, I've accumulated quite a collection. I've included a picture of their treasures below. Take a close look at the little gray rock on top. It's shaped like a heart! ❤️

I'm pretty sure the girls are more interested in the treats than showing their affection, but I like to think that little heart was meant just for me.

And speaking of hearts, I'm sending one right back to all of you! ❤️ Thank you for continuing to support me and my books. I appreciate every one of you!

As always, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to leave a comment here on my website or on any of my FB posts. Whether it's about my books, your own furry friends, or just to say hello, I always enjoy hearing from readers!

Until next time,

Jodi
